Since the middle of August I have been experiencing bag latency in World of Warcraft. I used to sit at around 800ms before applying the registry fix, but since I applied that I sat at around 400ms. But ever since August I’ve been sitting at around 32930ms latency.

Friday night I found out that without Blizzard saying one word to let anyone know, and they have yet to publicly acknowledge this but they moved my realms data center which was located in Seattle, Washington to Phoenix, Arizona back on the 17th of August. While moving this data center they also moved the Boston, Massachusetts data center to New York, New York on the 20th of July and the Dallas, Texas data center to Chicago, Illinois sometime in June.

I think this would have been acceptable if they had made a post on the forums so we had a heads up, but I actually found this out from a trace-route while I was trying to work out my latency problems. After much playing around tonight, I read a post on the Blizzard forums with a command stating that it reduced someones latency by almost half so I thought I’d give it a go. It reduced my latency from 32930ms to 350-400ms which is what I was experiencing before they moved the server. I don’t really understand why this simple command fixes the problem so well but I will be investigating this week and I’ll make sure to edit this if I find out. But for now enjoy!

Simply run the following command in CMD with administration privileges.

netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface “Local Area Connection” mtu=950 store=persistent

Alright I realize it’s been a while since my last blog post but today I got the fishing quest Disarmed! And at first glance I noticed the name was different or I couldn’t remember it being called that, but I just just passed it off as me having a bad memory. So I headed out to Borean Tundra to head to the Frozen Sea where there is always schools of Deep Sea Monsterbelly’s, started fishing and sat there for almost 20 minutes without getting the item. Now usually I get the fishing quest item on the first cast.. So I was begining to get pissed off. I just said fuck it and went and did a heroic for my daily. I went back to my fishing quest after and could still not get it. I had a druid whisper me and ask how you do the quest, he said he had been doing the daily for over a year (Like me) and had never had this much trouble before. So I just said fuck it and went to bed.

This morning, my brother (Who is new to Northrend) asked where the prison is inside of Dalaran. I said its Violet Hold and that was all that was said, Until I went to see why he wanted to know that. Only to realize he was trying to do the fishing quest. I said to him “Wait what? Its not here!” and to which he pointed out the quest text. It was then I realized Blizzard had changed the Fishing quest from Monsterbelly Appetite to Disarmed! and had changed the location from the Frozen Sea to outside of Violet Hold in Dalaran. Note instead of a “Bloated Monsterbelly” the item in which the arm is contained in is now called a Bloated Slippery Eel.

OK, So where you like me and missed this part of the patch notes?

The “Monsterbelly Appetite” daily fishing quest has changed so it now takes place outside the Violet Hold in Dalaran. The quest still requires a [Severed Arm] and has been renamed to “Disarmed!“

Well then.. now that you have read it, Don’t be an idiot like myself.. I totally missed that change in the patch notes. All I will say is, I won’t complain.. I do actually like the change. It makes it much easier to do the quest.

EDIT: At this time, WoWhead still hasn’t updated the quest name in the tooltip when you hover over that link. I Will let them know.

Today Blizzard announced some new changes on the way the Battleground and Honor system will work they are as follows;

We have several changes planned for Battlegrounds in the next minor content patch and would like to share them with you now. This patch will be available for public testing and we encourage you to participate, queue up and provide some feedback on these changes.

Firstly, say goodbye to Battleground Marks of Honor. We feel this currency system is a bit outdated and are getting rid of it. Any items which require these marks as currency will have their costs adjusted appropriately to remove this requirement. The quest NPCs will still be available to award players Honor for turning in leftover marks, but this is only to help players clear this expired currency.

Next, the Battleground holiday weekend will now be denoted as “Call to Arms” in the Battleground tab and Calendar. If you prefer a specific Battleground over all others, look for those words next to its name to determine whether or not you’ll receive bonus Honor. The bonus awards for Call to Arms Battlegrounds have been adjusted.

Winning a Call to Arms Battleground for the first time in a day will award players with 30 Honorable Kills worth of additional Honor currency.

Additional Call to Arms Battleground victories after the first win for a player that day will award them with 15 Honorable Kills worth of additional Honor currency.

Losing a Call to Arms Battleground will award players with 5 Honorable Kills worth of additional Honor currency.

To bring the rate at which players obtain PvP rewards with Honor more in-line with the rate at which players obtain PvE rewards via the Dungeon Finder, we’ll also be increasing the amount of Honor awarded for an Honorable Kill by 100%. In light of this, the amount of experience provided from an Honorable Kill, and the amount of Honor awarded for completing the Wintergrasp weekly quests, have been reduced by 50%.

It’s important to note one thing about these 50% decreases. All Honor awarded for completing objectives in Battlegrounds and Wintergrasp is actually based on an Honorable Kill conversion rate. So if you destroy a tower in Alterac Valley for example, the Honor you’re awarded is actually based on a flat number of Honorable Kills. Since Honorable Kills will now award 100% more Honor, completing such objectives will also award more Honor. This is why experience gains based on completing Battleground objectives and Honor awarded from the Wintergrasp quests are being decreased by 50%.

Now that we hopefully have your attention, we’re pleased to announce the implementation of the Random Battleground system! This system will work virtually the same as the Random Dungeon option in the Dungeon Finder. Players can queue with a group of up to five players for a Random Battleground in the Battleground tab. As with the Random Dungeon option, the Battleground chosen will not be revealed until players zone into the Battleground for which they are selected. The bonus rewards for this system are identical to the updated Call to Arms bonuses.

Winning a Battleground using the Random Battleground option for the first time in a day will award players with 30 Honorable Kills worth of additional Honor currency.

Winning additional Battlegrounds using the Random Battleground option after the first random win will award players with 15 Honorable Kills worth of additional Honor currency.

Losing a Battleground using the Random Battleground option will award players with 5 Honorable Kills worth of additional Honor currency.

When using the Random Battleground option, players will not receive additional rewards if the Battleground chosen is under the effects of the Call to Arms bonuses. In other words, the bonuses do not stack. In addition, if a player has been rewarded 30 Honorable Kills worth of bonus Honor currency from either the Random Battleground system, or the Call to Arms Battleground, he or she will be rewarded 15 Honorable Kills worth of bonus Honor currency that day for each additional victory. This applies whether the Random Battleground system is used, or the Call to Arms Battleground is chosen specifically, as a player cannot be rewarded the full amount of bonus Honor more than once per day.

All of these features and changes will be available in the next minor patch which should be hitting the public test realms in the near future. Please help us out by testing this system and providing your feedback so we can make some fine-tuning adjustments before the patch’s release.

I myself am pleased to hear these changes as it will be easier for me to get the PVP mounts to finally get my Mountain o’ Mounts achievement.

In early December they lost their Editor in Chief and they had advertised job listings for a new one, so people were debating whether or not the first issue would be completed. Well, on the 26th of December (Just a few days ago) they released a preview of the first 40 pages of the Magazine and also announced that the magazine was in the printers hands and should be here in a few weeks. From what I saw of the first 40 pages.. the magazine looks amazing and I wish I had subscribed to get issue 1 especially since back a few months ago, I was talking to one of the writers in the magazine about guild relations; how we deal with the loot and how being from all different countries affected my guild. So keep your eye out for my article in there! I hope it did get published but you should see a picture of my mage “Saphala” or a picture of myself I’m not really sure what he handed in.

Keep an eye out for my mage.. Here is the picture that I gave them!

Well after lots and lots of work and dedication, I have finally got my Reins of the Red Proto-Drake from Glory of the Hero. It took a lot of effort and almost a year but, I have it! The last achievement I needed was Make it Count, which is the Oculus 20 minute timed run, Which we did it 15 minutes ;) In the upcoming weeks I will make a post for each achievement with a guide on how to do it.

Well as some of you may have heard in 3.3 Blizzard is adding a new feature to the game. When you have an enchanter in the group there will be a 3rd option alongside Need/Greed which is Disenchant. From what they have said so far, you all just select disenchant and it will roll off the shard to the top highest roll and automatically give the enchanting mats to that person. Now I’m not really a fan of this, I usually do the disenchanting and roll off the shards at the end but using my own skill without my permission? I think that’s a bit over the top.

Now I’ve actually got a pretty strong opinion of disenchanting at the moment and I’m going to let you guys know what my opinion is. I think that disenchanting and rolling for shards at the end of the instance is NOT fair to the enchanter. The enchanter had to spend a lot of gold and mats to level up the skill, and its quite possibly the most hardest profession to level in the game. Now for example a skinner, gets to go into an instance and skin everything and keep the profits at the end right? We don’t ask to split up the skinning/herbing/mining materials at the end. We let them keep it, the only place for an enchanter to get materials really is in an instance, which is when the materials of that run then gets split up and quite often the enchanter walks away with nothing.. I just don’t see this fair to the enchanter in the first place. If this is the way its going to be, I think it would only be fair for the group to be able to call shares on the leather, herbs and ore at the end of the run too. Just to be clear, I’m fine with running an instance/raid with my guild and those materials going to the guild bank, but a 5man pug on the other hand, that’s where I get annoyed.

The only other way for enchanters is to hope that greens drop for us outside of instances which can be quite tricky, when miners for example can go around the world on their flying mount chasing mining nodes.

Feel free to leave your opinion in the comments.
